Draft WaterSmart Strategy - Public Consultation

Following extensive consultation with professional, industry and community stakeholders, Brisbane City Council’s draft WaterSmart Strategy is available for public feedback online until Monday, 23 August 2010.

The draft WaterSmart Strategy provides Brisbane with a fresh, water outlook. It aims to guide the actions that Brisbane will take to become Australia’s most sustainable and liveable city.

The Strategy covers actions and outcomes under four main areas – a water smart community; water in a well-designed subtropical city; a healthy river and bay; and sustainable water use.

Brisbane City Council has spent the past 18 months developing the draft WaterSmart Strategy and would like to thank all of those people who have provided input into the Strategy redevelopment.

Key engagement activities during the development of the draft WaterSmart Strategy included a series of five community workshops around community values, ecosystem services, climate change, well designed city and a synthesis forum. Many other conversations were held with groups such as:

• The Lord Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council
• Albert Park Flexi School
• Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) people
• Your City Your Say members
• Traditional owners
• Indigenous Elders
