South East Queensland’ waterways are integral to our lifestyle and economy.

As our population grows, keeping them in good condition is more important than ever.

Soil erosion and nutrient run off are some of the biggest threats to our waterways, which is often exacerbated during heavy rainfall events.

The ‘Healthy Country’ program was established in 2007 to support communities, farmers and scientists to improve the health of South East Queensland’s waterways and Moreton Bay.

It was set up as a “proof of concept” to share ideas and trial methods to reduce sediment and nutrients entering our waterways.

Communities, farmers and scientists have all played a role in improving the water quality of South East Queensland’s creeks and rivers flowing into Moreton Bay.

Their efforts have produced sustainable solutions that have reduced erosion, kept soil on the land and improved the resilience of our landscapes.
