Stages of the Program
The South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Partnership coordinates an extensive Science and Innovation Program with the support of the Scientific Expert Panel (SEP). To effectively oversee specific issues, the SEP has subgroups, such as the EHMP SEP and Modelling Advisory Panel.
The Science Program was developed in stages, each stage with a different scope and objectives.
Stage 1 was the scoping phase and was conducted by a team of engineers and scientists from a local consortium of consultants. Stage 1 also involved the formation of a Scientific Advisory Group to ensure quality control and rigorous peer review. The development and application of a hydrodynamic transport model and the formation of a Modelling Advisory Panel was also accomplished in Stage 1.
Stage 2 focussed on the river estuaries and Moreton Bay, and the agreed outcome of Stage 2 activities was the Water Quality Strategy and Monitoring Program for Moreton Bay and its river estuaries. The specific focus on river estuaries and Moreton Bay in Stage 2 resulted from the immediate need by water quality engineers from local councils to plan and implement sewage treatment upgrades.
The focus of Stage 3 is designed to be much broader than Stage 2, incorporating regional catchment issues and the rivers above the estuaries.
