Winner Project: Sunshine Coast Litter Collective Organisation: Sunshine Coast Litter Collective The Sunshine Coast Litter Collective aims to reduce the impact of litter on waterways. 150 volunteers routinely collecting litter from Sunshine Coast waterways and engage a further 500 volunteers in special clean-up events. Gold Coast Waterwatch involves local students collecting water quality data on physical, chemical and biological indicators of waterway health which is used for ongoing monitoring of local catchments.

Winner Project: Riparian Vegetation Management Projects Organisation: Ipswich Rivers Improvement Trust
The Riparian Vegetation Management project aims to eradicate weeds, particularly Chinese Celtis, from streams in the rural areas of Ipswich, including Western Creek, Bremer River and Purga Creek.

Winner Project: Broadwater Parklands Southport Organisation: AECOM
AECOM’s Broadwater Parklands project transformed a large asphalt car park into a vibrant public space exhibiting numerous Water Sensitive Urban Design initiatives including a tidal mangrove treatment wetland.

WaterSecure - Research Award
Winner Project: Prioritisation of Catchment Scale River Restoration within South East Queensland Organisations: Griffith University and eWater CRC
Griffith University and eWater CRC developed sediment tracing and evaluation tools that assist in prioritisation of riparian rehabilitation activities to reduce sediments leaving Logan and Bremer Rivers and Lockyer Creek catchments.

Gold Coast Water implemented a project that consists of a recycled water treatment plant and completion of a dual reticulation system to service homes and businesses with Class A+ recycled water.

Winner Project: The rescue and rehabilitation of native birds in South East Queensland as a direct consequence of fishing Organisation: Pelican and Seabird Rescue Inc.
Pelican and Seabird Rescue provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week volunteer service specialising in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured birds with the team saving an average of 14 birds a month during 2009.
